Gulangyu

Gulangyu, the largest island around Xiamen City, is named Gulangyu because there is a reef more than two meters high with caves on the beach in the southwest of the island. Every time the tide surges and the waves hit the reef, it sounds like a drum rolling, so it is called "Gulangyu".

Gulangyu is situated in the southwest of Xiamen Peninsula. It is separated from Xiamen Island by sea (N24 degrees 26'55.25 degrees north latitude and E 118 degrees 03'43.55 degrees east longitude).
