Zhangye National Wetland Park is located in the northern suburbs of Ganzhou District, Zhangye City, Gansu Province. Wetland area of 62,000 mu, mainly located in the northern suburb of the urban groundwater spillover zone, is the nearest Wetland Park to the city in China. The geographic location is between 100°06'- 100°54', and 38°32'- 39°24'.
Zhangye National Wetland Park is located in the front of Qilian Mountain alluvial fan in the middle reaches of Heihe River and the diving overflow zone of Heihe ancient river course and flood plain. It is a complex wetland ecosystem composed of natural wetlands such as rivers, herbaceous marshes, wet meadows, artificial lakes, ponds, ditches and other constructed wetlands. The wetland types are diverse and the original ecological characteristics are prominent. In ancient times, the northern suburb of Zhangye City was called "the northern Shuiyun Township of Ganzhou City".
The Zhangye National Wetland Park has a variety of ecosystems such as grasslands, deserts, farmland and waters. According to the statistics of families, genera and species, the plants distributed mainly include the family Equisetum, Polygonaceae, Polygonaceae, Ranunculaceae, Leguminosae, Gramineae, Cruciferae, Rosaceae, Polygonaceae, Malvaceae, and Willowaceae. About 200 species of plants, including Blue Blood, Compositae and Orchidaceae, are the main species.
Zhangye is located in the intersection zone of Qinghai-Tibet and Mongolia-New Plateau. The natural conditions in Zhangye are varied due to the differences of climate, topography, landform and various vegetation types. There are different animals living here.
