Erhai Lake

Dali Erhai Lake, with an area of 251 square kilometers, is a narrow and long lake. It starts in the south of Eryuan County in the north and ends in Xiaguan City in the south. It is 40 kilometers long in the north and south. It is the second largest lake in Yunnan after Dianchi Lake, and the 7th largest freshwater lake in China.

The total capacity of Erhai Lake is 2.53 billion cubic meters, the length of the lake is 42.5 kilometers, the average width of the lake is 6.3 kilometers, and the circumference of the lake is 117 kilometers. The water storage capacity is 2.794 billion cubic meters, the area of islands in the lake is 0.748 square kilometers, and the shoreline of the lake is 129.14 kilometers. Erhai Lake belongs to Lancang River system, because marble interbeds are favorable for groundwater storage and infiltration, and are mostly formed by transverse faults and physical and geological processes. In the north, there are Jasper Lake, East Lake and West Lake, which are the main water sources of Erhai Lake; in the west, there are 18 streams of Cangshan, which converge in the catchment area of Cangshan Mountain; in the south, there are Baluo River and Jinxing River; and in the east, there are Fengweizhao River and Yulonghe River  of catchment ditches.

Erhai Lake is a scenic spot with excellent quality and rich aquatic resources. Erhai Lake, though called the sea, is actually a lake. The Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple, Butterfly Spring, Du Wenxiu Shuai Mansion and Dali Ancient City are also located along the Erhai Sea.
