“Compendium of Materia Medica”It was compiled by Li Shizhen, a great medical scientist of the Ming Dynasty, in order to correct the mistakes in ancient medical books. (Illustration of the original compendium of herbal medicine in 1518-1593) With life-long energy, personal experience, extensive collection and on-the-spot investigation, it made a comprehensive summary of herbal medicine. It took 29 years to compile and more than 30 years to crystallize.

“Compendium of Materia Medica” There are 52 volumes, about 2 million words. There are more than 1.9 million words in the book. 1892 drugs (374 new ones) are recorded and classified into 60 categories. Among them, 374 are new drugs added by Li Shizhen. There are 1892 kinds of medicines, more than 1100 drawings and more than 11096 prescriptions attached. It is a great achievement of pharmacy achievements before the 16th century in China. It has also made outstanding achievements in exegetics, language, writing, history, geography, plants, animals, minerals, metallurgy and so on. It has been more than 400 years since the first edition was published, and dozens of editions have been published successively. It has been translated into English, French, Japanese, Russian, German and published in English, French, Japanese, Russian and German. Known as the "Oriental Pharmacopoeia", it has the greatest impact on modern human science and medicine.
