Idioms and proverbs are the special forms of Chinese cultural vocabulary. Idioms form a fixed grammar from a fixed structure to express certain meanings. Most of them have been passed down from ancient times to the present. Some also contain a story or allusion. Idioms are four-character structures which are customary and cannot be replaced at will. Idioms play a vivid, concise and vivid role in language expression; proverbs are simple and concise phrases widely spread among the people, mostly reflecting people's life experience or some social phenomena.
